TO: Canadian BMW CCA Club Racers
FROM: Phil Abrami, BMW CCA Club Racing Advisory Committee
BMW CCA 1999 Race Co-chair, Mt. Tremblant, Mosport
The 1999 BMW CCA Club Racing season is set to begin soon and the official rules should be announced shortly. It is my pleasure to inform you that BMW CC will play host to two club races in 1999: Bimmers Across the Border III at Le Circuit, Mt. Tremblant, Quebec on July 30- August 1 (co-hosted with the Boston Chapter of the BMW CCA) and BMW Canada Challenge Cup (title is tentative) at Mosport, Bowmanville, Ontario on September 10-12. I will once again be co-chair for the Tremblant race (with Sue Rathbone) and have agreed to be race co-chair for the Mosport event (with Frank Gray). By bringing these events into our backyard we hope to have the largest fields of Canadian entrants ever. Please mark your calendars now and plan to participate.
I also wanted to let you know that I have been appointed your representative on the BMW CCA Club Racing Advisory Committee (CRAC). CRAC provides racer input to the CR chair, Scott Hughes, and his staff. One of the responsibilities of CRAC is to provide feedback on the rules so if you have any suggestions for next year please pass them on to me. Otherwise, feel free to send me your 'beefs and bouquets" regarding the club racing programme and our events.
I will be writing an occasional series of articles for the BMW CC Ultimate Newsletter. If you have any ideas or suggestions please don't hesitate to pass them along. Due out in the upcoming issue is "Getting Started" a first timer's guide to the nuts and bolts of safety preparation. Right now, I'm putting the finishing touches on "DOT-R Competition Tires". And I hope to highlight each of the Canadian racers and their exploits in Club Racing, no matter what side of the border the races occur. So please keep me up-to-date on your personal results. I'd be happy to include them along with your own descriptions and anecdotes from the events you enter.
Blake Nancarrow is the BMW CC webmaster and he has crafted a marvelous site for the club. Blake has kindly offered to have a section of the site dedicated exclusively to Canadian club racing and he's already begun to create it. Among other things, he'll be featuring photos from last year's race at Tremblant and archiving some of my newsletter articles. And he's going to try to include the following for each Canadian club racer:
Obviously, Blake is going to need your help doing so. Contact him by phone (416 762-2660), fax (416 762-3670), or e-mail (blaken@computer-ease.com). You can also send mail to him via the club: P.O. Box 463, Station D, Etobicoke, Ontario M9A 4X4.
Finally, I hope you share my excitement at this time in the history of the BMW CC and its new thrust into grassroots motorsports via vintage-style club racing. While we are currently a small group of diehard racers here in Canada, it is my fervent hope that our numbers will swell dramatically over time. In order to do so, we will need to recruit other BMW enthusiasts to our ranks. So please join with me in making every effort to be ambassadors for the club racing programme in Canada. Your enthusiasm, your knowledge, and the fun you have racing clean and hard will help get others involved.
Have a great season!
Regards,
Phil Abrami
