Club Racing Rule Final Changes

BMW CCA Club Racing
2001 Rules Changes

Effective 1/1/2001

The following are the final changes to the 2001 BMW CCA Club Racing Series.

RULES COMMITTEE DECISIONS

  1. Roll Cage Construction in Stock cars
Roll cage rules remain in effect for Stock class cars. Stock class car cages may NOT include braces to the rear shock towers. The few cars that were approved with this configuration will be grandfathered and allowed to remain in Stock IF they submit documentation in writing to the National Technical Steward including copies of log books, etc. proving they had been authorized this construction for Stock class. The NTC will respond in writing; such authorization must remain in the car’s log book. Without it such cars will compete in Prepared classes. Any questions contact the National Tech Steward.
  2. Passenger door panels – Prepared Classes
Prepared classes are allowed to replace the OEM passenger door panel(s) with 0.060” aluminum or comparable materials, securely attached to the door, as per the new SCCA IT regs.

Passenger door panels (either OEM or described above) are required unless affected by the installation of the roll cage. Specifically, the passenger side panel may only be removed if the cage is constructed with door bars that intrude into the panel area.
  3. Front Passenger Seats – Prepared Classes
The typo in the 2000 rules will be corrected; front passenger seats may be removed in Prepared.
  4. Flywheel lightening and replacement
Stock and Prepared flywheel assemblies must retain stock configuration and weight. Flywheel lightening or replacement is allowed in Modified Classes.
  5. Tires
Stock class will allow Hoosier Dirt Stocker and Hoosier "Motorola Cup" rain tire to be used as rain tires. Requests for approval of any other rain tires can be submitted to the National Technical Steward.
  6. IT Classifications
Cars complying with ITA, ITB, ITC, or ITS specs will be classed in the appropriate Prepared class. ITE cars will be classed according to BMW CCA rules and will generally be classed as Modified.
  7. E36 M3 Suspension Changes
E36 M3 front lower control arms and bushings, along with solid rear upper shock mounts are allowed, in the interests of safety and durability. It is strongly advised that this modification is made. This is a safety measure to address ball joint failure issues with stock E36 arms.
  8. Tinted Windows
Tinted REAR windows are specifically disallowed in all classes and their use is discouraged in all windows. OEM window tinting is allowed. The purpose of this rule is to address dark aftermarket tinting which causes real safety issues in driver awareness and communication.
  9. Electrical fuel pumps
Addition to Stock class rules – A mechanical fuel pump may be replaced with an electrical fuel pump provided that it is wired to be controlled by the ignition system, to ensure shut down in the case of an accident requiring electrical cut-off.
  10. Fuel cells
Fuel cells are allowed in all Stock Classes (see new Section 8 for requirements).
  11. Data Acquisition – Stock and Prepared
Data acquisition devices are free in Stock (and Prepared) Classes, as long as they are NOT able to adjust ANY setting on the vehicle at ANY TIME by the driver while driving during practice, qualifying, or race conditions. These devices are to be used for information gathering ONLY.
  12. Brake Lines
Stock classes may use steel or aeroquip brake lines.
  13. Classification of New Models
    E46 325 to K Stock/Prepared
    E46 330 to I Stock/Prepared
    E46 M3 to H Stock/Prepared
  14. Updates to Stock and Prepared Weights
Stock weights have been provided for new models. Updates for Prepared are still pending SCCA decisions and will be provided as soon as available.

Appendix B (Seat Belt Specifications) and Appendix D (Window Net Specifications) have been merged into the related rules sections.

TECHNICAL STEWARDS NOTICE

Scales and Weighing Cars
Tech Stewards will provide scales and weigh selected competitors cars at every race where the equipment is available. CR will evaluate whether it is necessary to purchase scales to facilitate this process.

EVENT POLICY CLARIFICATION

Additional Track Time
Race Stewards and Chapter Officials may permit track time for racers in addition to scheduled race/practice/qualifying sessions at their discretion and under parameters they choose (ie: no racing in driving school or Instructor sessions).
