2001 PROPOSED RULES

Submitted for racer comment period which expires Oct 31st.

The following are the Rules Committee's decisions regarding racer suggestions for rules changes and Rules Committee submissions as proposed rules changes for the 2001 BMW CCA Club Racing Series.

Racer comments are welcome during the comment period expiring Oct 31. Final rules will be published in an early December newsletter and 2001 rules will be published/distributed before 12/31.

RULES COMMITTEE DECISIONS

  1. CLASS STRUCTURE and OPERATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
With minor changes to incorporate new cars (ie: E46M3, 330) and a review and update as required of the allowed weights, there will be no changes to the existing class structure or philosophy of car classification in the 2001 program.

CR Staff and the Club Racing Advisory Committee (CRAC) will continue to evaluate suggestions for implementation of changes to classification based on a points system (such as POC) and/or a weight based system for the 2002 series.
  2. National/Regional Championships
There will be no National or Regional Championship points series in 2001 other than the BMW NA Challenge Trophy if BMW NA continues that program.
  3. Scales and Weighing Cars
Tech Stewards will provide scales and weigh competitors cars at every race where the equipment is available. CR will evaluate whether it is necessary to purchase scales to facilitate this process.
  4. Spec Cars and Spec Tires
There will not be a spec car or spec tire program in 2001 nor is there one currently planned for the future.
  5. Alternate Body Panels
Alternate materials body panels will not be allowed in Prepared classes. (Note: Stock rule page 19, 7F Spoilers has not been changed).
  6. Roll Cage Construction in Stock cars
Roll cage rules, page 3a remain in effect for Stock class cars. While we have grandfathered a few Stock class cars that were allowed to extend braces to the rear shock towers, that is not and will not be allowed in stock class. We will continue to grandfather the cars constructed under a prior ruling, but no others. Any questions contact the National Tech Steward.
  7. Passenger door panels
Current rules (Stock pg 19H and Prepared pg 22.7.C) remain unchanged. Passenger door panels must be intact in these classes unless affected by the installation of the roll cage. Specifically the passenger side panel may only be removed if the cage is constructed with door bars that intrude into the panel area. The typo in the 2000 rules between pg 22 C and F will be corrected; front passenger seats may be removed in Prepared.

PROPOSED 2001 RULES CHANGES

  1. Flywheel lightening and replacement
The Rules Committee seeks further input from racers on allowing flywheel lightening or replacement in Prepared classes. While it may be a common modification we are reluctant to allow this change in Prepared as it would raise the cost of competitive participation in these classes.
  2. Tires
Stock class, pg 17, 3 will be changes to allow DOT approved Hoosier Dirt Stocker tires to be used as rain tires even though they are not speed rating branded. Other tires can be submitted for approval.
  3. IT Classifications
pg 13, 1, last sentence will be clarified to specify that cars complying with ITA, ITB, ITC, or ITS specs will be classed in the appropriate Prepared class. ITE cars will be classed according to BMW CCA rules and will generally be classed as Modified.
  4. E36 M3 control arms are allowed for all E36 cars
This is a safety measure to address ball joint failure issues with stock E36 arms.
  5. Tinted Windows are specifically disallowed in all classes
Another safety issue to facilitate driver to driver awareness and communication.
  6. Electrical fuel pumps
Addition to Stock class rules - A mechanical fuel pump may be replaced with an electrical fuel pump provided that it is wired to be controlled by the ignition system (to ensure it's being shut off in case of accident).
  7. Fuel cells
Fuel cells are allowed in all Stock (see Rules page 22, 8A for requirements)
