Track Updates

Introduction

Vince Loughran, track manager, has constantly updated us on the situation at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant following the sale of the facility to Lawrence Stroll of the Tommy Hilfiger Group.

There is great news for the long term. Extensive renovations costing millions of dollars are being made to the track surface, buildings, and overall infrastructure. Furthermore, the track will be available to clubs and for club race events. Therefore, we can expect the track facility to be a spectacular one in what is already a world-class resort and with every likelihood that we will be regular and welcome users in the future.

The bad news was that the renovations were planned through the summer of 2000. Therefore, officially, no dates for schools and races were available. We had to find different venues (such as Sanair) to our driving schools and for the Canadian and American club racers in the Northeast. Regardless, the Boston Chapter still held Bimmers Across the Border (BAB4) in the region--but this time they gave their full attention to the blues festival and the scenery.

Pre-Launch Opening

"Wow" is the best way to describe the renovations. Alan Wilson, new track president and world-renowed track designer, helped bring Le Circuit to the latest FIA standards. In his words "We have been able to make the track 10 percent faster, 10 percent scarier, and 100 percent safer." After a ride around the course with Claude Borbonnais, Phil agreed.

The track is now scheduled to open in Jul 2001 for a Ferrari event. The ALMS and World Challenge will be there August 25 weekend. Much work needs to be done before the opening including the final finish and sealing coats to the road surface, speed bumps, and refurbishing and additions to the tower, etc.

Phil shot some digital video of a lap of the course. His is providing color track maps and some of the press releases.

Matt said, "There is no doubt that Le-Circuit Mont Tremblant will be one of the greatest tracks in the world. How fortunate we are!"
